    1. Start off by logging into your account for Google Ads
    2. Go over to the 3 dots in the top and then select “Audience Manager”
    3. You need to go over to the sidebar and click on these in the following order:
      • “Audience Sources”
      • “Google Ads Global Site Tag”
      • “Set up tag”
    4. “Collect standard data available from this data source” – click on this option and then the “Save And Continue” button.
    5. Now you will be given the global site tag – you need to take a copy of the ID in the code – this is something you’re going to need in the future.
      • You will find the code you need is visible on your screen right after “AdWords”
    6. Select “Continue” before then clicking the “Done” button

Remarketing Code Setup – GTM Method

    1. You need to be logged into Google Tag Manager, ensure that you’ve clicked on the relevant account.
    2. Now you need to form a variable where you will be able to store the Conversion ID for Google Ads – to do this, simply follow these steps:
      • Find the tab labelled “Variables”
      • Now you need to look beneath “user-defined variables”
      • Select “New”

By using the “variables” as a way to keep store IDs, you will easily be able to create new tags which utilise this ID.

    1. You will notice a panel appears to the right of your screen.
      • “Choose a variable type to begin set-up…” – select this option
      • Another list will appear, now you just need to find “Constant” further down the list.
    2. Give the variable a new name – select the text at the top section to do this.
    3. Now you need to input the Conversion ID which was presented to you by Google Ads previously, and then click the “Save” button.
    4. Find the “Tags” tab and then click on these in the following order:
      • “New”
      • “Choose a tag type to begin set-up”
      • “Google Ads Remarketing”
    5. Give your tag a new name.
    6. See the “Conversion ID” section – you need to click on the variable which you created earlier.
      • It’s important to note that when you are setting up new tags, a naming system may be beneficial to you – this helps to keep your GTM organised, so you can easily find what you’re looking for in the future.
    7. Now we just need to get the rule set up so that it triggers across all web pages – we do this by selecting the following in this order:
      • “Choose a trigger to make this tag fire”
      • “All pages”
      • “Save”
    8. In the right top corner, two workspaces alterations should be visible to you, if you can see this, then make sure to hit the “Submit” button
    9. Now you will see the panel (Submission Configuration) – you have the opportunity to give the current version a description and name, once you’re finished, you just need to click “Publish”.
    10. An overview of all the alterations you have made should now be visible to you.
      • It’s important that you make sure that your business’s privacy policy is up-to-date so that users are able to consent to you collecting their data and the way you use this information is in compliance with the latest legislation.

Set-up Verification With Google Tag Assistant

To follow this step, you’re going to need to use this extension: Google Tag Assistant – ensure you install it on the browser.

    1. Go to the homepage of your website.
    2. Now you need to click on the icon for the Tag Assistant
    3. There should be a tag visible labelled the “Remarketing Tag” and also your Conversion ID should be shown underneath it.
      • In the event that you are using an AdBlocker, there is a chance that you will not see the red tag which will show you if something isn’t working right – ensure that you disable the AdBlocker and refresh your page before trying again.
    4. This is a process that you can use for multiple pages on your website – whenever you look at Google Tag Assistant, you should be able to see the “Remarketing Tag”.

    And… you’re done!

You have now successfully set up the Google Ads Global Tag and are well on your way to building up a remarketing audience so you get a second chance at getting those sales and conversions.
